One-Pass Machine Improving Southern WA Soils

“Offsets or speed tillers can take three to four passes and still not get the clay incorporated properly. The Gregoire Besson does it in one go and leaves a firmer seedbed.”
– Ben Harriss, Harriss Contracting

Adding a Gregoire Besson ‘Discordon One-Pass Finisher’ to their fleet has transformed Harriss Contracting’s clay spreading and soil improvement services across southern WA, delivering more efficient incorporation, alleviating compaction, and helping to tackle non-wetting soils.

Run by Ben and Kate Harriss, the Narrikup-based contracting business services farms from the Lower Great Southern to the south-eastern wheatbelt. With the new machine, growers benefit from a complete end-to-end clay spreading and incorporation service, saving time and improving results in a single pass.

Ben said the machine’s efficiency and effectiveness stood out immediately: “We did a demo at Narrikup and after seeing what it did in one pass, I knew it would be a great asset for our business and customers.”

Growers have responded positively, noting improvements in soil structure, seedbed finish, and reduced machinery passes. The machine has already covered 600 hectares across the region.
